A series of immersive experiences unique in Auvergne Rhone Alpes

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Le Puy-en-Velay Cathedral is home to the region’s largest digital art centre, for which we had the honour of producing 5 immersive scenarios. Following on from the Puy de Lumières, the Hotel des Lumières is a unique activity that has been a great success since 2016

Freedom, I draw your name

A timeless voyage across the Atlantic aboard the Hermione, alongside General Lafayette, a native of the Haute-Loire. Through waves and storms, spectators join the American insurgents and their French allies in a quest for freedom and independence. The fresco for freedom continues in Paris in 1789, when the Bastille was stormed, leading to the drafting of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. Thanks to 360-degree immersion through video projections on the walls and floor, the spectator finds himself at the heart of History, alongside the men and women who have written its most beautiful pages, composed its most beautiful tunes and sketched its most beautiful illustrations of fundamental rights. An invitation to break down walls and shackles. In this way, each video projection becomes an open door to a bygone era, yet one that is still fresh in our memories. By finding themselves at the very heart of historical events, viewers are confronted with an essential truth: the past is never static.

Leonardo da Vinci, the immersive experience

What if Leonardo da Vinci had known about the digital arts? This is the concept we developed for the Hotel des Lumières in Le Puy-en-Velay. An immersive journey to the frontiers of knowledge, retracing the history of the Florentine genius’ inventions. The public embark on his flying machines, surround themselves with his visionary sketches and immerse themselves in his historic paintings. The prodigy’s discoveries come to life and are told in a fascinating immersive show, where lighting effects are combined with gigantic video sequences.
By revisiting Leonardo da Vinci’s revolutionary inventions and ideas through the prism of modern technology, visitors are invited to question their relationship with progress and knowledge. This immersive experience reminds us that true innovation often lies in our ability to see beyond convention and embrace the unknown with curiosity and daring.

Journey to the centre of the Earth

Inspired by Jules Verne’s novel, we have created a visual narrative that takes the audience on a journey through the different layers of the earth. First the celestial strata, with an immersion in space, then crossing the clouds before observing the wonders of the nature that surrounds us: the oceans, the forests… Video mapping on the walls and floor surrounds the visitors, who are drawn visually into the strata of the earth’s rocks and underground caves. Like buried cathedrals, they reveal parietal and Aboriginal frescoes alongside gigantic fossils. An invitation to daydream, in the corridors of space and time.

Compostela

A first in France: the “salle des malades” at Hôtel-Dieu has been transformed into a chapel. These historic sites, with their vaulted architecture, have enabled us to create a unique atmosphere where visitors are surrounded by animated murals. The digital projections follow the curves of each vault and follow each relief, for a total immersion in a celestial journey called Compostela, The Field of Stars. A unique perspective, made possible by video mapping, which takes spectators on a journey along the route of Santiago de Compostela, of which the Hotel-Dieu is one of the stages and a World Heritage Site.

Impressionist lights

With the immersive “Lumières Impressionnistes” experience at the Hôtel Dieu in Le Puy en Velay, spectators are transported into a world where painting comes to life. An extraordinary performance, in which the walls and floor are entirely covered in videomapping. Inside the majestic rooms of the Hôtel Dieu, visitors will find themselves immersed in the masterpieces of the great Impressionist masters. From the lush landscapes of Monet to the dreamlike compositions of Van Gogh, the paintings come to life, enveloping the audience in a whirlwind of colour and movement. Suddenly, the dancers immortalised by Degas leave their frames to dance among the visitors, merging art and life, the digital and the real. At the end of the show, a new dimension of art is revealed: each pixel disintegrates to reveal the original composition, each brushstroke becomes palpable.
This artistic immersion transcends the limits of time and space, offering a profound reflection on the nature of art and perception. By finding themselves in the midst of the living canvases of the Impressionists, spectators are invited to question the reality and subjectivity of their own vision. The illusion of reality created by videomapping underlines art’s ability to alter our perception of the world around us, reminding us that beauty can be found in every pixel, in every movement. By allowing the dancers to leave their frames and interact with the audience, this immersive experience transcends the boundaries between the work of art and the spectator, who then becomes part of the work itself. In this way, “Lumières Impressionnistes” becomes much more than just an art exhibition; it’s an exploration of the human soul and its infinite capacity to detect beauty in the world around it.
